Sometimes writing is taking a good look at yourself and all the events in your life. Words roll out and you follow where they go. There is a reference to my cousins passing, my daughter moving to Alabama, old loves remembered and describing my brain wave activity. Stir it up and comes out in a song soup. I love how some musical arrangements materialize. The keys in this one worked for me.

WONDER WHAT IT WAS By SMonroe

My bucket is filled to over flowing
But nothing really stops them all from pouring
My life’s a chain of changes that keep growing
Trying to keep me in one place but I keep going

The rain dances on my window and the patter soothes my heart
A ray of sun cuts through the sky and it ignites a thought
Then it disappears into the sky as the rain pours from above
And I wonder what it was that I was thinking of

My head is full of thoughts that keep wandering
My heart has it’s own ideas no lack of longing
My life is very strange it keeps me wondering
About the things I thought I knew and acts of blundering

The sun shines through my window and the heat it heats my heart
Then a rogue cloud shuts it’s rays off and it ignites a thought
Then it disappears into the sky like a random shot at love
And I wonder what it was that I was thinking of

It’s all pursuant to pursuing, these images of life I’m viewing
From ecstasy to poverty, losing someone so dear
Watching their tail lights as they all but disappear
Sewing holes in my heart with survival’s thread
And thoughts that keep passing by like traffic in my head

My life is nothing if not compelling
It’s a story that feels old but it’s worth telling
It bleeds into the words as I am writing
About the ripples on this roller coaster I’m riding

The stars dance on my window and the moon light soothes my soul
It calms me for a while, while I try to gain control
Then I hear the lonesome cooing of a mournful turtle dove
And I wonder what it was that I was thinking of
Thoughts disappear from memory like the touch of a lost love
And I wonder what it was that I was thinking of
I wonder what it was that I was thinking of
